While it may work, it is best to use the fluid weight and brand recommended by your fork's manufacturer. Different brands design their dampers around specific fluid viscosities, and using the wrong weight can significantly alter your fork's rebound and compression characteristics.

Fox generally recommends a full damper service every 125 hours of riding or once a year, whichever comes first. If you ride in particularly muddy or dusty conditions, you may want to perform this service more frequently to prevent internal wear.

Fox damper fluid is formulated to maintain consistent viscosity across varying temperatures, which prevents your suspension from feeling different at the start of a ride versus the end. It also includes additives specifically designed to reduce friction and protect the internal seals found in Fox forks.
