Draw reins are training tools used to help guide a horse's head carriage and encourage proper engagement of the hindquarters. They provide additional leverage to help the rider communicate more clearly with the horse during flatwork or schooling sessions.

The loop ends are designed to be threaded through the bit rings and then attached to the girth, either by passing them through the horse's front legs or running them up to the saddle D-rings. This creates a pulley-like system that allows for adjustable contact.

Draw reins are generally recommended for experienced riders or those working under the guidance of a trainer. Because they offer significant leverage, it is important to have a steady, independent hand to avoid putting too much pressure on the horse's mouth.

To maintain the suppleness and durability of the leather, clean the reins with a damp cloth after each use and apply a high-quality leather conditioner regularly. Avoid soaking the leather, and store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

These are intended specifically for flatwork and daily schooling. They are not recommended for jumping or high-speed work, as the leverage they provide can restrict the horse's natural movement and balance over fences.
