This hanger is specifically engineered for certain Trek and Gary Fisher frames and is designed to replace Trek Part #282088. The derailleur hanger acts as a sacrificial link between your frame and the rear derailleur. It is intentionally designed to bend or break under stress to absorb impact, preventing that force from transferring to your frame's dropout, which could cause permanent, expensive damage.

CNC machining from 6061 aluminum allows for extremely tight tolerances, ensuring the hanger fits perfectly and aligns your derailleur precisely. This precision is essential for crisp, reliable shifting performance that cast or stamped alternatives often cannot match.

This product includes the hanger itself with the integrated 20mm mounting post and M12 x 1.75 threading. It does not typically include the mounting bolts that attach the hanger to the frame, so you should retain your original hardware during the replacement process.

While some minor bends can be corrected with a derailleur hanger alignment gauge, aluminum work-hardens when bent and straightened. Replacing the hanger is the safer, more reliable option to ensure proper shifting and to avoid the risk of the metal snapping mid-ride.
