Kelty Discovery Basecamp Footprint

This footprint is specifically engineered for the Kelty Discovery Basecamp 4. While it might physically fit under other tents of similar dimensions, it is designed to match the specific geometry and stake points of the Discovery Basecamp 4, so we recommend using it only with that model for the best fit.

The footprint is intentionally cut slightly smaller than the tent floor to prevent rainwater from collecting between the two layers. If the footprint extended beyond the tent's perimeter, it would act as a funnel, catching runoff and pooling water directly underneath your sleeping area.

While modern tent floors are waterproof, a footprint adds a critical layer of protection against abrasion from rocks, sticks, and rough ground. It is much easier and cheaper to replace a footprint than it is to repair or replace a tent floor that has been punctured or worn thin over time.

While it provides a barrier against moisture and sharp debris, it is not designed as an insulation layer. For colder weather, you will still want to rely on a quality sleeping pad with an appropriate R-value to keep you warm.

The best way to clean it is to hose it off with water and a soft brush while it's laid out flat. Allow it to air dry completely in the shade before packing it away to prevent mildew or fabric degradation.
