ROME Pie Iron

Like most traditional cast iron cookware, you should season this pie iron before your first trip to ensure a non-stick surface and prevent rust. A light coating of oil baked onto the iron will protect the metal and improve performance over time.

While it is designed for campfires, charcoal grills, and wood stoves, it will work on a gas or electric kitchen stove as well. Just be mindful that the long handles may extend past your stovetop, and the iron will get very hot, so use caution.

Since it is not dishwasher safe, the best method is to wipe it clean while it is still warm using a paper towel or a stiff brush. Avoid soaking it in water or using harsh soaps, as this can strip the seasoning and lead to rust.

The handles are made of steel and wood, which helps dissipate heat, but they can still get warm depending on how close they are to the flames. It is always a good idea to keep a pair of heat-resistant gloves or a towel nearby when handling the iron.

The 4.5 x 8.5-inch cooking surface is sized for standard sandwich bread. If you use very thick slices or overstuff the sandwiches, the iron may not close completely, so it is best to stick to standard-thickness bread for the best seal.
