Magnepan MG II Speakers

These speakers require a high-current amplifier to perform at their best. Because they have a 4-ohm nominal impedance and 87 dB sensitivity, you should use an amplifier capable of delivering between 50 and 300 watts to ensure proper control and dynamics.

As dipole radiators, the MG IIs emit sound from both the front and the back. For optimal imaging and depth, place them several feet away from the front wall to allow the rear-radiated sound to reflect properly, and experiment with toe-in to focus the wide horizontal dispersion.

While the MG IIs are tall at 72 inches, their slim profile helps them blend into many spaces. However, their dipole design and large surface area perform best in medium-to-large rooms where they have enough space to breathe and create a cohesive soundstage.

The MG IIs prioritize tight, controlled, and rhythmic bass over deep, room-shaking sub-bass. While they reach down to 40 Hz, listeners who prefer significant low-end impact may choose to integrate a dedicated subwoofer.

The planar magnetic drivers use a thin-film diaphragm that is much lighter than a traditional cone, allowing for faster transient response and significantly lower distortion. This results in the signature transparent, airy, and highly detailed midrange that Magnepan is known for.

The MG IIs are relatively low-maintenance, but you should keep them away from direct sunlight to prevent the fabric finish from fading. Periodically vacuuming the cloth covers with a soft brush attachment will help keep them clean and free of dust.
