Clematis Jackmanii

Because this is a vigorous vine reaching 10 to 12 feet, it needs a sturdy trellis, fence, or arbor to climb. It is best to install your support structure at the time of planting so you don't disturb the roots later.

Pruning Group 3 plants bloom on new growth produced during the current season. You should prune these vines back hard in late winter or early spring, cutting them down to about 12 to 18 inches above the ground to encourage vigorous new stems and better flowering.

While it is primarily a garden plant, you can grow it in a large container if you provide a tall, stable trellis and ensure the pot has excellent drainage. Keep in mind that container-grown plants require more frequent watering and fertilization than those planted directly in the ground.

Clematis Jackmanii is exceptionally hardy and thrives in USDA zones 4 through 11. It is well-suited for a wide range of climates, though in the coldest zones, you may want to mulch the base of the plant in late autumn to protect the root system.

For the best floral display, plant your Clematis in a spot that receives at least six hours of direct sunlight daily. While it can tolerate partial shade, the number of blooms will be significantly higher in a sun-drenched location.
