The device includes a vibration sensor that detects movement. When you are moving, it automatically sends your GPS coordinates at your chosen interval; when you stop moving, it pauses tracking to conserve battery life, resuming automatically once you start moving again.

It carries an IP67 rating, meaning it is dust-tight and can withstand immersion in water up to one meter deep for 30 minutes. It is designed to handle rain, snow, and accidental drops into shallow water, but it is not intended for prolonged underwater use.

The Spot GEN3 is designed for pre-programmed messages rather than free-form texting. You set up your contacts and custom messages in advance via your online account, allowing you to quickly send status updates like 'I'm okay' or 'Setting up camp' with the press of a button.

Pressing the dedicated SOS button sends your GPS coordinates directly to the GEOS International Emergency Response Coordination Center. They will then notify the appropriate local emergency services in your area to dispatch help to your exact location.
