An anvil lopper uses a single sharp blade that closes against a flat surface, similar to a knife on a cutting board. This design is specifically optimized for crushing through dry, dead, or woody stems, whereas bypass loppers are better suited for clean cuts on live, green growth.

PowerGear technology uses a specialized gear mechanism to multiply your leverage. This allows you to exert significantly less physical effort to achieve a clean cut, making it much easier to prune thicker branches than with standard manual loppers.

This model is designed to handle branches up to 1.25 inches in diameter. Attempting to cut branches larger than this may damage the blade or the gear mechanism.

The 15-inch length is considered a compact size, making it excellent for tight spaces or low-to-mid-level pruning where maneuverability is key. If you need to reach high tree limbs, you would likely need a longer-handled lopper or a dedicated pole pruner.

While you can use them on live branches, the anvil design is prone to crushing the stem rather than slicing through it cleanly. For live, healthy growth, a bypass lopper is generally preferred to ensure the plant heals properly.
