Oriental Artisan Mino Ware Bowl

Mino Ware, or Mino Yaki, refers to pottery produced in the Gifu Prefecture of Japan, a region with over 1,300 years of ceramic history. It is highly regarded for its diverse glazing techniques and durable, high-quality clay.

While the high-quality ceramic is durable, we recommend hand-washing these bowls to preserve the integrity of the antique blue glaze and the handcrafted finish. We advise against using them in the microwave to prevent potential thermal shock to the artisanal glaze.

The small bowl is 12.3cm in diameter with a 310ml capacity, making it ideal for individual portions of rice or small side dishes. The large bowl has a wider 14.2cm diameter and a 330ml capacity, which provides a better surface area for soups or serving desserts.

Because each piece is individually handcrafted by artisans, you should expect slight variations in the texture, glaze application, and pattern placement. These unique characteristics are a hallmark of authentic Mino Ware and ensure that every bowl is one-of-a-kind.

The cherry blossom motif is integrated into the ceramic process using traditional glazing techniques. This ensures the design is permanent and protected by the finish, rather than sitting on the surface like a decal.
