Unlike traditional mechanical switches that have a fixed actuation point, OmniPoint 3.0 HyperMagnetic switches use magnetic sensors to detect key presses. This allows you to physically adjust the actuation distance for every single key, ranging from a hair-trigger 0.1mm to a deeper 4.0mm press.

While the physical footprint is smaller, the Apex Pro Mini retains full-size functionality through secondary layers. You can access standard keys like arrows, media controls, and function keys by using the SteelSeries function modifier key, which is standard for compact 60% layouts.

Rapid Trigger allows the switch to reset the moment you lift your finger, rather than waiting for the key to return to a specific physical point. This makes it significantly faster to spam inputs or strafe in competitive shooters, as the key is ready to be pressed again instantly.

The keyboard is plug-and-play, so it will function as a standard keyboard immediately upon connection. However, to access the advanced features like per-key actuation adjustment, Rapid Trigger settings, and RGB customization, you will need to install the SteelSeries GG software.

The keyboard uses Double Shot PBT keycaps, which are widely considered the gold standard for durability. Because the legends are molded into the plastic rather than printed on top, they will not fade or develop that 'shiny' worn-out look over time.

It is excellent for both. You can use the adjustable actuation to set a deeper, more tactile-feeling actuation point for typing to reduce typos, and then switch to a sensitive, shallow setting for gaming profiles.
