To reach the maximum sequential speeds of 14,900MB/s, your motherboard must support PCIe Gen 5.0. While it is backward compatible with older PCIe slots, you will be limited to the speed of that specific generation.

The Western Digital SN8100 is a standard M.2 2280 drive and does not include an integrated heatsink. Because PCIe Gen 5 drives can generate significant heat under heavy workloads, we recommend ensuring your motherboard has an M.2 thermal guard or purchasing an aftermarket cooler.

While the SN8100 is technically compatible with the PS5's M.2 slot, it is designed for high-end PC performance. If you install it in a console, ensure you have a compatible heatsink attached, as the PS5 requires one for all internal SSD upgrades.

TLC 3D NAND allows for higher data density and improved endurance compared to older storage architectures. This makes the drive more reliable for demanding tasks like 4K video editing and high-speed gaming where large amounts of data are written frequently.
