Yes, the teak wood is finished to be food-safe. Because it is natural wood, we recommend hand-washing it with mild soap and occasionally treating it with food-grade mineral oil to maintain the finish and prevent the wood from drying out.

Because each bowl is crafted from natural, Grade A teak, the grain pattern and color will vary from piece to piece. You should expect your bowl to have unique markings that distinguish it from others.

Staved construction involves joining individual segments of wood together, similar to how wine barrels are made. This technique is highly durable and allows the bowl to hold its shape well over time while minimizing wood waste during production.

This bowl is primarily designed for serving salads and dry goods. While it is durable, it is not intended for holding hot liquids or being used as a cooking vessel, as extreme heat and moisture can compromise the wood over time.

This is a re-issue of the original 1959 design by Jens Quistgaard. It is manufactured using the same iconic silhouette and high-quality construction methods as the original, but it is a newly produced item.
