Antique French Gothic Chest/Trunk

This chest is in very good antique condition for its age. As expected with a 19th-century piece, there are minor nicks, discolorations, and surface scratches, as well as several noted woodworm holes that are typical for authentic oak furniture of this era.

The interior is spacious and constructed from solid oak, consistent with the exterior. While it is clean and functional, we recommend lining the interior with acid-free tissue paper or a protective fabric if you plan to store delicate textiles to prevent snagging or contact with the raw wood.

Being crafted from solid oak, this chest is substantial and heavy. We recommend using felt pads under the base to protect your flooring and to make it easier to reposition the piece within your room.

This is a traditional antique chest, so the lid is designed to open fully and rest against the back or be held manually. It does not feature modern soft-close hinges or a locking mechanism, so please use caution when opening and closing the heavy oak lid.

To maintain the finish, simply dust the piece regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemical cleaners or excessive water, as these can damage the aged patina; a high-quality, wax-based furniture polish can be used sparingly if you wish to enhance the wood's natural luster.
