To get a proper seal, fold the top down at least three times over the stiffened strip and then buckle the ends together. This creates a reliable barrier against water, provided the bag isn't submerged for extended periods.

The side compression straps are essential here; they allow you to cinch the bag down to stabilize the load and reduce the overall profile. However, if you rarely pack for multi-day expeditions, you might find the 110L size excessive for shorter day trips.
