While it thrives in boggy or wet conditions, it is quite adaptable. You can plant it in standard garden beds as long as you provide consistent moisture and do not let the soil dry out completely.

Acorus 'Ogon' performs best in full sun to part shade. In hotter climates, providing some afternoon shade will help prevent the foliage from scorching while still maintaining that signature bright yellow variegation.

It is considered semi-evergreen. Depending on the severity of your winter, the foliage may persist, but in colder zones within its hardiness range, it may die back and re-emerge in the spring.

Acorus 'Ogon' forms a dense, upright clump rather than spreading rapidly via underground runners. It is generally well-behaved and easy to manage in borders or containers.

This plant is not deer resistant. If you have a high deer population in your area, you may want to place it in a protected location or use a deterrent.

The most important maintenance task is ensuring it receives regular water, especially during dry spells. Beyond that, it is a low-maintenance perennial that requires very little intervention to look its best.
