Pinetree Garden Seeds Summer Squash

While similar in growth habit, this variety—often called Coosa squash—features a lighter green skin and a distinctively firm, white flesh. It is prized for a subtle, nutty flavor that many find superior to standard supermarket zucchini.

Unlike vining squash varieties that sprawl across the ground, this plant grows in a compact, upright bush shape. This makes it much easier to manage in smaller garden beds or containers and simplifies harvesting.

You can expect to harvest your first squash approximately 50 days after sowing. Because the plant is highly productive, it will continue to yield fruit over a prolonged period if harvested regularly.

This variety is incredibly versatile. Its firm texture holds up well to cooking, making it an excellent choice for stuffing, but it is also mild and crisp enough to be enjoyed raw in salads or crudité platters.

Squash generally prefers direct sowing once the soil has warmed up. Aim for an optimum germination temperature between 70-85º F and plant your seeds 1/2 to 1 inch deep.

To ensure good airflow and prevent disease, space your plants 36 to 48 inches apart. This spacing gives the bush habit enough room to develop fully without overcrowding.
