Nepenthes ampullaria x hamata - Medium

This hybrid is best suited for enthusiasts who already have experience with tropical Nepenthes. Because it requires precise humidity and temperature control, it is generally considered an intermediate-to-advanced plant.

To encourage the striking red pigmentation, provide bright, indirect light. While it needs plenty of light to thrive, avoid direct sun exposure, which can scorch the leaves.

While it can be grown in a greenhouse or a dedicated grow room, it is best kept in a terrarium or high-humidity enclosure. This ensures the plant receives the consistent moisture and humidity levels it needs to develop its characteristic pitchers.

Use only distilled, reverse osmosis, or rainwater to keep the substrate consistently moist but not waterlogged. A well-draining, airy mix—typically consisting of long-fiber sphagnum moss and perlite—is ideal for preventing root rot.

As a medium-stage plant, it is currently sized for standard terrarium displays. While it will continue to grow, Nepenthes are generally slow growers, so it will remain manageable in an indoor setup for quite some time.
