As a highland carnivorous plant, Heliamphora tatei requires high humidity, bright but indirect light, and cooler temperatures. It is best suited for a terrarium or greenhouse setup where these specific conditions can be consistently maintained.

Heliamphora are sensitive to minerals and salts. You must use distilled water, reverse osmosis water, or rainwater to prevent damage to the plant's root system.

This species is generally recommended for experienced growers. It requires precise environmental control and is less forgiving of fluctuations in humidity and temperature compared to more common carnivorous plants.

While the plant is capable of trapping insects on its own, it does not strictly require them to survive. In a controlled indoor environment, the plant will thrive as long as it receives adequate light and proper water.

These plants typically prefer a well-draining, nutrient-poor substrate. A mix of long-fiber sphagnum moss and perlite or pumice is commonly used to ensure the roots remain aerated while staying moist.
