Tezumi Tenugui Towel

The raw edges are a traditional feature of authentic Tenugui. This design choice prevents the towel from becoming bulky when folded or wrapped, and it allows the fabric to dry much faster, which is essential for hygiene.

Because the short ends are raw, you may see a few loose threads initially. These will naturally stop fraying after a short distance as the weave settles, maintaining the towel's traditional aesthetic.

You can easily hang the Tenugui using a magnetic poster hanger, a wooden tapestry rod, or by clipping it to a decorative display rail. Its lightweight cotton construction makes it simple to mount without needing heavy-duty hardware.

This design uses the traditional Chū-sen technique, where dye is hand-poured through the fabric. This ensures the pattern is visible on both sides of the cloth, unlike standard screen printing.

This Tenugui features a flat weave, which is less absorbent than a plush terry cloth towel. However, it is highly efficient at wicking moisture and dries significantly faster, making it ideal for travel, kitchen use, or as a headband.

We recommend hand washing in cold water with a gentle detergent to preserve the hand-dyed colors. Avoid using bleach or harsh chemicals, and hang the towel to air dry to maintain the integrity of the cotton fibers.
