Stone Lantern Akadama Shohin Bonsai Soil

Hard-fired Akadama has been kiln-processed to increase its structural integrity. This prevents the granules from breaking down into dust quickly, ensuring your bonsai maintains proper aeration and drainage for a longer period.

While specifically sized for shohin and smaller specimen trees, this 1-3 mm grain is also excellent for top-dressing larger bonsai or as a component in custom soil mixes for trees that require finer particle sizes.

Because this is a pure volcanic medium, you will need to provide all necessary nutrients through a regular fertilizing schedule. We recommend using a balanced bonsai-specific fertilizer, applied according to the growth stage and species of your tree.

This Akadama is designed for fast drainage, which is critical for preventing root rot in bonsai. It holds enough moisture to sustain the tree while allowing excess water to pass through quickly, promoting a healthy, oxygenated root system.

This product is processed to have minimal dust, so extensive rinsing is typically not required. However, you can lightly sift or rinse it if you prefer an exceptionally clean application for your repotting process.
