This is a traditional feature of authentic Japanese Tenugui. Leaving the edges raw prevents the towel from becoming bulky when folded or wrapped, and it allows the fabric to dry much faster after washing.

Because the fabric is a flat-weave cotton, it may fray slightly at the very ends after the first few washes. This is normal; you can simply trim any loose threads, and the fraying will typically stop once the fabric reaches a natural tension point.

You can use a dedicated Tenugui hanger, which uses magnetic or tension bars to grip the top and bottom. Alternatively, you can use decorative clips or a simple wooden dowel to display it as a wall hanging.

Yes, the high-quality woven cotton is quite absorbent and lightweight. It functions perfectly as a dishcloth or hand towel, though it will feel thinner and smoother than a standard terry cloth towel.
