THÖRESS EHT MKII Integrated Amplifier

The EHT topology combines a single-ended triode gain stage with a MOSFET output stage, operating in Class-A without the need for output transformers. By removing the transformer, the design significantly reduces non-linear distortion while maintaining the sonic character of a vacuum tube.

While 20 watts may sound modest, the amplifier features a high damping factor and excellent drive capability. It is designed to handle challenging loudspeaker loads effectively, though it is best suited for speakers with moderate to high sensitivity.

The MKII includes a 3-position toggle switch that allows you to select between two bass boost presets (B1 and B2) or a neutral setting. These presets provide subtle tonal adjustments to help compensate for room acoustics or to add weight to smaller speakers.

The EHT MKII uses standard, readily available vacuum tubes (6J5GT, 12J5GT, or 7A4) rather than exotic or costly power tubes. The unit is built with point-to-point wiring to ensure ease of service and high reliability over time.

The remote volume control utilizes a high-grade, motor-driven dual potentiometer made by ALPS. This ensures purely analog signal attenuation, providing precise control and excellent channel balance without the potential sonic degradation of digital volume circuits.

Despite the minimalist design, the amplifier is fully short-proof and operates with high thermal stability. It achieves this robust performance without the need for intrusive protection circuitry that could otherwise interfere with the signal path.
