The 2.5-way configuration uses the bass driver to handle both low and mid-range frequencies, which helps create a more seamless transition between the bass and the tweeter. This results in a more cohesive soundstage and better vocal clarity compared to standard two-way designs.

The ZRR (Zero Rear Reflection) tweeter is engineered to prevent internal sound waves from bouncing back into the diaphragm. By eliminating these reflections, the speaker produces a cleaner, more detailed high-frequency response without the harshness often found in conventional tweeters.

While categorized as bookshelf speakers, their performance is optimized when placed on dedicated, stable stands. Because they are front-ported, they offer more flexibility in placement near walls than rear-ported speakers, but they still benefit from being away from boundaries to maintain imaging precision.

With a sensitivity of 89dB and a nominal impedance of 6 Ohms, these speakers are relatively efficient and can be driven well by a wide range of quality integrated amplifiers. You do not need an exceptionally high-powered amplifier to achieve satisfying volume levels, but a high-current design will better control the side-mounted bass driver.

The transmission line design uses an internal folded path to guide the energy from the back of the bass driver, which reinforces the low-end output. This allows the R-7 to produce a faster, more articulate bass response that feels more natural and less 'boomy' than standard ported enclosures.
