Side Imaging allows you to see up to 125 feet on either side of your boat, providing a detailed, photo-like view of underwater structures, drop-offs, and fish. It is particularly useful for scouting large areas quickly without having to drive directly over your target.

While the HELIX 7 is a full-featured unit often found on larger boats, it is compatible with kayaks if you have the space to mount the display and a power source. Keep in mind that the transducer is larger than those typically included with dedicated kayak fish finders, so you will need to ensure your kayak hull can accommodate the transducer mount.

Dual Spectrum CHIRP provides two distinct viewing modes: Wide Mode for maximum coverage to see more fish in the water column, and Narrow Mode for high-resolution detail to distinguish between closely spaced targets. This gives you better clarity and target separation compared to traditional single-frequency sonar.

The preloaded Basemap covers over 10,000 lakes with basic contour lines, which is helpful for general navigation and finding major depth changes. However, if you fish specific waters frequently, you may want to upgrade to premium chart options like LakeMaster or Navionics for significantly more detailed depth contours and vegetation data.

The keypad interface is designed for reliability in all weather conditions, including when your hands are wet or you are wearing gloves. While it lacks the intuitive swipe-and-tap feel of a touchscreen, the menu system is straightforward and allows for precise control once you memorize the primary button functions.

AutoChart Live allows you to create your own bathymetric maps in real-time as you drive your boat. It records depth data and creates detailed contour lines on your screen, which is invaluable for mapping uncharted waters or finding hidden structures that aren't marked on standard maps.
