These are 5-pin switches. While they are designed for 5-pin PCB mounting, you can use them in a 3-pin hot-swappable board if you clip the two plastic guide pins off the bottom of the switch.

The housing material is engineered to absorb light and emit a glow in low-light conditions. It is a purely aesthetic feature that does not impact the mechanical performance or typing feel of the switch.
